  • Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cake:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Nougat Layer:

  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup marshmallow fluff
  • ½ cup powdered sugar

Caramel Layer:

  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup salted peanuts, chopped

Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven and Prepare Cake Pans: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line them with parchment paper.
  • Make the Chocolate Cake:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
    • Carefully mix in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour evenly into prepared pans.
    • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Prepare the Nougat Layer:
    • In a medium bowl, mix peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy.
    • Spread the nougat mixture evenly over one cooled cake layer.
  • Add the Caramel Layer:
    • Pour caramel sauce over the nougat layer and sprinkle with chopped peanuts.
  • Top with Second Cake Layer: Place the second layer of chocolate cake on top of the caramel-nougat layer.
  • Make the Chocolate Ganache:
    • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer (do not boil).
    • Remove from heat and pour over chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
    • Pour the ganache over the cake, letting it drip down the sides for an impressive finish.
  • Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes to set the ganache. Slice and enjoy!
