- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Nougat Layer:
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup marshmallow fluff
- ½ cup powdered sugar
Caramel Layer:
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup salted peanuts, chopped
Chocolate Ganache:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare Cake Pans: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line them with parchment paper.
- Make the Chocolate Cake:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
- Carefully mix in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Prepare the Nougat Layer:
- In a medium bowl, mix peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Spread the nougat mixture evenly over one cooled cake layer.
- Add the Caramel Layer:
- Pour caramel sauce over the nougat layer and sprinkle with chopped peanuts.
- Top with Second Cake Layer: Place the second layer of chocolate cake on top of the caramel-nougat layer.
- Make the Chocolate Ganache:
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer (do not boil).
- Remove from heat and pour over chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
- Pour the ganache over the cake, letting it drip down the sides for an impressive finish.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes to set the ganache. Slice and enjoy!
