  • Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 large white mushrooms, stems removed and reserved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 2-3 tablespoons cooked bacon, crumbled, or Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the Mushrooms

  • Gently clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth to remove any dirt.
  • Carefully remove the stems and chop them finely. Set the caps aside.

3. Sauté the Filling

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped mushroom stems, garlic, and onions.
  • Sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until the onions become soft and fragrant.

4. Mix the Filling

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the sautéed mushroom mixture with breadcrumbs, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  • If you’re adding bacon or sausage, incorporate it now.
  • Mix until the filling is well-combined and creamy.

5. Stuff the Mushrooms

  • Use a spoon to fill each mushroom cap with the prepared mixture, pressing gently to pack the filling.
  • Arrange the stuffed mushrooms on the prepared baking sheet.

6. Bake to Perfection

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the tops are golden brown.

7. Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove the mushrooms from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of parsley or extra Parmesan for added flair.

Notes

  • Choose the Right Mushrooms: Opt for large, firm white mushrooms to ensure they can hold the filling without collapsing.
  • Customize the Filling: Experiment with different cheeses like cheddar or Gouda, or add chopped nuts for extra crunch.
  • Prevent Sogginess: Avoid overfilling the caps and ensure they’re baked on a lined sheet to prevent moisture buildup.
