These Tebasaki Chicken Wings are the perfect blend of crispy texture and bold Japanese flavors! Coated in a sweet-savory glaze with a touch of spice, they’re easy to make and impossible to resist—perfect for wing lovers and beginners alike!

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: About 3 ½ dozen meatballs 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 packages (22 ounces each) frozen fully cooked Angus beef or chicken meatballs – Using pre-cooked meatballs saves time and ensures consistency. If you prefer homemade meatballs, you can make them from scratch using ground beef or chicken mixed with breadcrumbs, eggs, and seasonings.
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar – This ingredient adds deep caramelized sweetness to the glaze.
  • ¼ cup white vinegar – The acidity in vinegar balances the sweetness and enhances the overall flavor.
  • ¼ cup bourbon – Provides warmth and complexity to the sauce. If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, substitute with apple juice or beef broth for a similar depth of flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons spicy brown mustard – Adds a mild heat and tangy richness to the glaze. If you don’t have spicy brown mustard, Dijon mustard is a good alternative.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Meatballs

If using frozen meatballs, follow the package instructions to heat them. Most frozen meatballs can be warmed in the oven at 375°F for 15-20 minutes, in a slow cooker on low for 2-3 hours, or on the stovetop with a little water or broth.

If using homemade meatballs, bake them at 375°F for 20 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

Step 2: Make the Bourbon Sauce

  1. In a large skillet or saucepan, combine the brown sugar, vinegar, bourbon, and mustard.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together over medium heat until well combined.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the alcohol in the bourbon to cook off while deepening the flavors of the sauce.

Step 3: Coat the Meatballs in the Sauce

  1. Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the warmed meatballs to the skillet.
  2. Stir gently to ensure all the meatballs are evenly coated with the glaze.
  3. Let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for about 5 minutes, allowing them to absorb the flavors. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove the meatballs from heat and transfer them to a serving dish.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions for added color and freshness.
  • Serve immediately with toothpicks for an easy appetizer or over rice for a complete meal.
